Hospital/Home Visits:

Caring, trained volunteers respond to the needs of the sick on a personal basis. They bring spiritual support and guidance and offer cheerful encouragement to the sick and homebound in the parish. To arrange for hospital/home visits, please call the Christian Service Office (248-625-4583).

Anointing of the Sick:

The sacrament is celebrated three times a year at the 11:00 a.m. Mass on Thursday (in January, May and September), or upon request. It is administered to those seriously ill, injured or anticipating surgery, or old age. Celebration of the sacrament can be scheduled through the Christian Service Office (248-625-4583).

Who may be anointed?
The appropriate time to request the anointing is when seriously ill people begin to be in danger, that is, at the onset of a serious illness or before surgery.  They can be anointed again if they fall into a more serious crisis during the same illness.  The sacrament is most appropriately celebrated at crisis, especially when the person is conscious.  The Sacrament of the Sick is not intended for persons passed in consciousness of the moment of death - formerly call Extreme Unction or The Last Rites.  Remember, it is important not to wait until the last minute to receive this special anointing.

How sick do I have to be?
Not as sick as we formerly thought.  The sacrament is most fruitful when you are not so sick as to be unable to participate in the prayers and ritual actions.  The rite states that the sacrament is for "those whose health is seriously impaired by sickness or old age.
