When dropping off donations to the St. Vincent de Paul or paper recycling bins at the end of the parish parking lot, you may have noticed the bins were pretty full, or maybe even that there were donations left on the ground outside of the bins.
There are several reasons for this situation, and it is OUT OF OUR PARISH'S CONTROL.
Since COVID first hit, the SVdP central warehouse in Detroit has been overwhelmed with donations, and they are short staffed. Most of the stores (SVdP and other thrift stores) are in the same boat.
It is not currently cost effective for the paper recycling company to send a driver out on a regular basis to empty those bins, and our Men of St. Daniel have not been realizing the same proceeds from the bins as they once did.
We are trying to keep on eye on the SVdP bins (blue and white), and close them off when they are full. If you arrive and find a "Closed" sign on the SVdP bins, please DO NOT leave items outside the bins!
Those items you wanted to share with others will be exposed to the weather and elements, and will have to be thrown away. Instead, if our bins are full, try the SVdP store on Dixie Highway, and hopefully they will be able to accept donations at that point in time.
Also, for the time being, please DO NOT bring your paper to our bins (green and yellow) to be recycled, as we are unsure when those bins will be emptied. Most garbage companies accept paper for recycling, so please put it out (in your recycling container) with your trash.
We thank you for your patience and understanding, and will update you as the situation changes!
